Outgoing UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has acknowledged his defeat in the UK parliamentary elections. Prior to conceding, Ryanair posted a viral social media message teasing the British-Indian politician.

Keir Starmer and his centre-left Labour Party are poised to secure a significant majority in the parliamentary election, having already secured over 326 seats out of 650, while Sunak’s Conservative Party has secured only 70 seats.

Sunak faced a daunting challenge of 14 years of anti-incumbency and grappled with concerns over the cost-of-living crisis during the election campaign. The Conservative Party, plagued by years of instability and internal strife following the Brexit vote in 2016, has seen five different prime ministers, as reported by Reuters.

Ryanair playfully taunted the outgoing UK Prime Minister with a widely circulated post, offering him a seat on their flight in case he lost his Richmond and Northallerton seat.

The post has garnered over 2.6 million views and sparked thousands of amused reactions.

Sunak had surprised Westminster and his party by calling for the election earlier than necessary in May, despite the Conservatives trailing Labour by roughly 20 points in opinion polls.

He had hoped the gap would narrow, as is customary in British elections, but instead endured a campaign widely described as fairly disastrous.

The campaign reached a peculiar climax when Sunak appeared on ITV’s This Morning chat show on the final campaign day, an episode criticized as bizarre. Photographs captured the Indian-origin leader waiting in line behind Britain’s most tattooed woman.
